AARP, Save the Chidren, HelpAge & Stephen Lewis Foundation Host DC Screening

We were thrilled to be a part of a forum and screening of Grandma2Grandma on Sept. 13th in Washington, DC!  AARP hosted the event at their national headquarters, with more than 125 people joining us. It was a great way to share the film with people focused on international development, outreach and understanding as well as those who are already serving grandparents and other relatives raising children. The presenters, who represented each of the co-hosts, each talked about the work they have done or are engaged in currently to support these families across the Globe, bringing home the fact that this phenomenon is truly a growing issue in both developed and developing countries, including Viet Nam, China, Australia, India, Peru, Canada....and of course in Africa. They were all able to reference the film and draw from it parallels to and inspiration for their work. Each attendee received a copy of our 30 min. highlights version of the film, and we hope they will go forth and use the film as a tool to raise awareness of new models and approaches to serving these families. We learned about programs we had never heard about and we realized the film will have impact far beyond our original intentions. Good stuff!
